` Marmara University has roots extending back into the 19th century as a school of commerce of high reputation. As a modern university, it was founded in 1982 , when the school of commerce was consolidated with several other professional schools offering study of medicine, dentistry, law, and fine arts. To these were added faculties of arts and sciences, education, and foreign languages to provide a full complement of coursess for university studies. Marmara University now has five main campuses, approximately 2.700 academic staff and some 55.000 students, including about 1.000 foreign students.
` Marmara has developed a reputation for excellence of programming and innovation in administrative style. Marmara has attracted to its staff some of the most distinguished scholars in the country. The University determined in 1982 that access to ideas and technology of the world required, in many fields, mastery of foreign languages, particularly English. Hence, preparatory schools were established for intensive language training and several faculties began instruction in English. One of these units includes the departments of Economics and Business Administration, and International Relations which has an undergraduate enrollment of 600. This school, on the Asian side of the Bosphorus, is the site of the exchange.
` The English and German language tracks for Economics and International Relations courses attract many international students to Marmara University, making this a lively and internationally diverse location for this exchange program.
